So...
a few of you may have noticed that I said a while back that I was
getting rid of my Facebook page. I know that was a while ago...
It's been an interesting process. You see, my FB (short for
Facebook) is connected to the New Horizons FB page. If I deactivate
my account, then, from what FB is telling me, the interaction between
our website ( www.horizonlviv.org
– you should go check it out if you haven't!) and Facebook itself
will break. I'm not going to go through all of the in's and out's of
how that works and stuff, but needless to say, I've been trying for a
week or so to fix that... and it hasn't worked. I've sent a message
to FB about it, and that hasn't worked.
So,
all this time, I'm reevaluating in my mind the question, "So...
why do I want to get rid of Facebook when I'm a missionary overseas
and all my friends back in America are on that site?" It's an
interesting question. The answer is "Well... I thought God
would want me to get rid of Facebook because I was spending too much time
on it." It's been interesting, though. For the past few
weeks, I really haven't gotten on Facebook that much... in other
words, I've accomplished my original objective.
I
still believe that Facebook has been a temptation for a
lot of wasted time in
my life, but I also recognize how God's used it to help me keep in
touch with a lot of people, update people in America with what's
going on with me, and I've even had the opportunity to personally
share my faith with someone on Facebook.
I'm
going to continue to pray about this. All I really want to do with this is follow God's will for my life, with or without Facebook. If I do stay on FB, I still
want to spend less time on it. We'll see what happens. Thanks a lot
for your patience, guys.
I feel ya' bro. I'm actually permanently deleting mine because I've wasted enough time on it. In addition, the barrage of things that come against you on there are too much for anyone to handle.
